A meaningful portion of Dr Gill’s FT3D patients don’t live in Chandigarh or Mohali. They come from Delhi, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jammu, Shimla, Dehradun, and further. The procedure isn’t widely available outside this centre — so the travel is the trade-off for access to the technique.

How Many Trips Does This Involve?
The minimum is three visits. First, a consultation — X-ray review, clinical examination, and the decision about whether FT3D is right for your situation. Second, the pre-surgical assessment (blood work, ECG, anaesthesia clearance) — this can sometimes be combined with the consultation for patients travelling from far. Third, the admission for surgery itself, followed by 3 days in hospital and discharge.
Post-operative follow-ups at 2 weeks and 6 weeks typically require a trip to Mohali. After that, if you’re based elsewhere, Dr Gill’s team can assess whether further reviews can be done remotely (via WhatsApp video with recent local X-rays) or whether an in-person visit is needed.
Getting to Max Hospital Mohali
Max Super Speciality Hospital is at Phase 6 (Sector 56), Mohali. By air: Chandigarh International Airport (IXC) is about 12 km away — a 20-minute taxi ride. Most major cities connect to Chandigarh directly: Delhi (multiple daily flights, 50 minutes), Mumbai (2–3 hours), Hyderabad, Bengaluru. The airport is small and easy to navigate.
By train: Chandigarh Railway Station or Mohali Station (SAS Nagar) are both accessible. The Shatabdi Express from Delhi Ambala to Chandigarh takes about 3.5 hours. From Chandigarh station to Max Hospital Mohali is another 20–25 minutes by taxi.
By road: Chandigarh is well-connected via NH-44 (from Delhi, 250 km, 4–5 hours) and NH-5. Pre-booked taxis from Delhi for patients who can’t manage public transport after surgery are a practical option, particularly for the post-discharge journey home.
Accommodation Near Max Hospital
Phase 6 and surrounding Phase 7 have multiple hotel options at different price points — budget guesthouses at ₹800–1,500 per night, mid-range hotels at ₹2,000–4,000, and service apartments for patients wanting more space for a recovery stay. The hospital reception can suggest options. For the consultation and pre-surgical visits, most patients come for a day and return the same evening.
After discharge, if you can’t travel home for 2–3 days, staying near the hospital is recommended over a long journey on day 3 post-surgery. A local physiotherapist visit at your accommodation in the immediate post-discharge phase is also possible — ask the Max Hospital physiotherapy team to suggest local contacts.
What to Bring for the Surgery Admission
Insurance card and policy documents (if using cashless). All prior X-rays and MRI scans of the knee. A list of current medications. Comfortable, loose clothing — particularly loose trousers or salwar that can fit over a bandaged knee. A phone charger and personal items for 3 days. Someone to accompany you on admission day and on discharge — you should not travel alone post-surgery.
